Velseis had its origins in the 1970s as Velocity Data Pty Ltd which specialised in borehole seismic services for the petroleum industry. In the 1980s the company diversified into high-resolution seismic reflection services. Over the past three decades, Velseis has built a reputation as the leading Australian provider of fully-integrated seismic services, with vast experience throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
The company provides contracting services for coal, mineral and hydrocarbon exploration utilising Dynamite, Mini-SOSIE, Vibroseis and Airgun sources. Over the last decade, Velseis has been at the forefront in development of high-resolution 3D seismic imagery. This technology has been driven by the needs of the coal-mining industry, but is also stimulating interest from the minerals and environmental sectors.
In the mid 1980s Velseis introduced in-house seismic processing services, initially using proprietary software. Velseis is now Australia’s most experienced company in the processing of high-resolution seismic data, and is at the forefront of high-resolution 3D seismic mine-planning imagery. In addition Velseis has an active oil and gas processing division, specialising in low-to-medium volume projects requiring specialised attention. The primary processing software is Promax, with a range of other third party (e.g. Tsunami, Geographix) packages. Specialised projects (e.g. multicomponent) are handled in Velseis’ R&D division using proprietary code.
Velseis’ Seisdrill Division was established in 2001, as part of a commitment to providing a fully integrated seismic exploration service. Seisdrill is an evolution of Geodrill Pty. Ltd, a company with 20 years of seismic shothole experience, primarily throughout the Cooper, Surat, and Bowen Basins. Seisdrill currently operates a fleet of Bourne 1000R rigs mounted on Ford Louisville and Kenworth vehicles. Seisdrill can also provide mineral, water and general drilling services.
PT Velseis Indonesia, based in Balikpapan, is a joint venture providing geophysical logging and seismic acquisition. The main focus is on geophysical logging services. The support infrastructure of PTVI is also utilised for seismic services in the region, drawing upon the resources of the Velseis group.
